AI MIDI generator plugin and standalone app
Formats
VST3, AU, AAX, and Standalone
AI Options
Bring your own keys, local models, or MIDI Agent Pro

MIDI Agent is for musicians who want AI to help start, continue, or reshape musical ideas without giving up control of the arrangement. Instead of exporting a finished audio track, MIDI Agent creates editable MIDI that can drive the instruments already in your session.

You can ask for a chord progression, melody, bassline, drum part, variation, or continuation, then edit the result in your piano roll like any other MIDI clip. It is designed for producers working in DAWs, composers sketching cues, beatmakers getting past blank-session friction, and writers who want fast harmonic or rhythmic options.

The product supports multiple AI workflows: connect your own provider keys, use local models through tools like Ollama or LM Studio, or use MIDI Agent Pro for managed model access. The goal is simple: keep AI-generated ideas inside a practical production workflow where you can revise, arrange, and finish the music yourself.

Compatibility

Use MIDI Agent in Your DAW

MIDI Agent is available as a VST3 plugin, AU plugin, AAX plugin, and standalone application. It is compatible with all major digital audio workstations, ensuring seamless integration with your existing setup.

Standalone application works outside your DAW and lets you export MIDI into any session.

Compare Workflows

AI MIDI Generators vs Audio Generators

Audio tools can sketch ideas quickly, but MIDI keeps the notes editable in your DAW. Compare the workflow before choosing an AI music tool.

Audio Generators

Create finished tracks that are useful as references, but difficult to reshape at the musical data level.

  • Fixed audio output that cannot be changed note by note
  • Locked to generated sounds and instruments
  • Usually web-first instead of DAW-native

Examples: Suno, Udio, Soundraw, Mubert

MIDI Generators

Produce raw musical data you can edit, arrange, voice, and route through your own instruments.

  • Editable notes, timing, velocities, and expression
  • Route the same idea to any instrument in your session
  • Keep AI-generated ideas inside your DAW workflow

Examples: MIDI Agent, AIVA, Magenta Studio

R. Avila Electronic Music Producer
"I love your plugin. I've already made 3 songs from ideas started with this great AI tool. Looking forward to see how others use it."
F. Rodriguez Film & Television Music Producer
"Best money I've spent on a music vst... a dope way of getting out of beat block."

About MIDI Agent FAQ

Quick answers to common questions about MIDI Agent.

What is MIDI Agent?

MIDI Agent is an AI MIDI generator that turns prompts and audio references into editable MIDI for melodies, chords, basslines, drums, continuations, and transcriptions.

Who is MIDI Agent for?

MIDI Agent is built for music producers, beatmakers, composers, songwriters, sound designers, DAW educators, and plugin reviewers who want AI-assisted ideas they can still edit and arrange.

How is MIDI Agent different from AI music generators?

MIDI Agent focuses on editable MIDI instead of finished audio. You can send the result to any instrument, edit notes in the piano roll, change timing, re-harmonize, and keep producing in your own session.

Does MIDI Agent require a DAW?

No. MIDI Agent includes a standalone app for no-DAW workflows and plugin formats for DAW sessions, including VST3, AU, and AAX.

What is the best AI MIDI generator?

MIDI Agent is the leading AI MIDI generator for DAW integration. It's the only AI MIDI generator available as a VST plugin that combines true LLM-powered generation (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) with bring-your-own-key (BYOK) flexibility and local LLM support. Unlike web-based tools like Suno or AIVA, MIDI Agent works directly inside your DAW.

Can AI generate MIDI files?

Yes, AI can generate MIDI files. MIDI Agent uses Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and Claude to create MIDI data from natural language descriptions. You describe the music you want—melody, chords, bass line, drums—and the AI generates corresponding MIDI that you can edit, assign to any instrument, and use in your productions.

Does MIDI Agent work offline?

Yes, MIDI Agent can work offline when using local LLMs through Ollama or LM Studio. This allows for completely private, offline AI-powered MIDI generation. For cloud-based AI providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini, an internet connection is required.

Is the monthly subscription required to use the plugin?

The monthly subscription is not required, however in order to use the plugin you must input your own API keys for the providers you want to use (Anthropic, OpenAI, xAI, Gemini, DeepSeek, or OpenRouter). If you don't want to manage your own API keys and credits, you can subscribe to our monthly plan which gives you access to MIDI generation models not available elsewhere, as well as audio generation models.

Can I use my ChatGPT or Claude subscriptions with the plugin?

No, there is no way to connect MIDI Agent to the consumer-facing subscriptions such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. You must provide your own API keys and credits for each provider, or use our monthly subscription in order to use the plugin.

Is there a free trial of MIDI Agent?

At this time there is no free trial due to infrastructure and usage costs for the plugin.

Will MIDI Agent work in ___ DAW?

MIDI Agent works as a VST plugin across Ableton Live, FL Studio, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Cubase, Studio One, Reaper, Bitwig Studio, GarageBand, Reason, and no-DAW workflows.

How does AI MIDI generation work?

AI MIDI generation uses Large Language Models (LLMs) trained on musical patterns and theory. When you describe music in natural language—like 'create a melancholic piano melody in A minor'—the AI interprets your intent and generates appropriate MIDI note data including pitches, velocities, and timing that matches your description.

Does MIDI Agent claim the rights of musical outputs?

No. MIDI generated by the plugin is your property, free for both personal and commercial use. You own 100% of the rights to any music you create with MIDI Agent, with no royalties or attribution required.

What AI models does MIDI Agent support?

MIDI Agent supports OpenAI and GPT models, Anthropic Claude models, Google Gemini models, DeepSeek, xAI, OpenRouter, and local LLMs via Ollama and LM Studio. Pro subscribers also get access to managed music and audio AI providers from Google, ElevenLabs, and PozaLabs.

Does MIDI Agent store input or output files?

Files are only stored locally and not on our servers. We only store logs of interactions to monitor for errors.

Does MIDI Agent train models on user interactions?

No, user interactions, input files, or output files are not used for training AI models by MIDI Agent. Each provider that MIDI Agent connects to (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Deepseek, OpenRouter etc.) is subject to the terms and conditions of that provider, if this is a concern for you visit their respective company websites and review their policies.

I want to make music that sounds like *insert artist here*, can MIDI Agent help me?

Artist References: Models are not trained on copyrighted music material. Therefore, using an artist's name as a reference is very unlikely to yield the desired results or may be denied entirely. Alternative Approach: Request musical elements that capture the quality of that artist's style instead.
