Common Troubleshooting Questions
I installed the plugin but I get an error when submitting a request
- API Key & Credits: Ensure you have entered an API key for the provider you're using and that you have available API credits.
- MIDI Agent Pro Option: If you prefer not to manage multiple API keys, subscribe to MIDI Agent Pro and select the 'MIDI Agent' provider, which features the best models available.
Can I use my ChatGPT or Claude subscriptions with the plugin?
- No, there is no way to connect MIDI Agent to the consumer-facing subscriptions such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini. You must provide your own API keys and credits for each provider, or use our monthly subscription in order to use the plugin.
I generated music but see an error that says the response may include incomplete MIDI data
- Incomplete MIDI Data: This error can occur if the model's response is cut off—often due to a limited context window or an unsuccessful API call.
- Suggested Fixes: Try clearing the chat history or requesting a shorter sequence (for example, 4 bars instead of 16) to reduce the likelihood of errors.
I put through a lot of requests really fast and started to get errors
- Rate Limits: API providers enforce rate limits. Slow down your requests or temporarily switch to another provider.
- High-Frequency Requests: If you must process requests rapidly without hitting rate limits, consider using models via OpenRouter.
I asked for a specific style and I didn't get it
- Specificity in Requests: AI may struggle with vague musical nuances. Instead of referencing a broad genre, request specific musical elements. For example, try "power chords for guitar in an alternative rock song" rather than simply "alternative rock."
I want music that sounds like *insert artist here*
- Artist References: We do not train our models on copyrighted material. Therefore, using an artist's name as a reference is unlikely to yield the desired results.
- Alternative Approach: Request musical elements that capture the quality of that artist's style instead.
I REALLY want music that sounds like *insert artist here*
- Future Enhancements: We're working on training a model that handles such requests better. However, this improvement will take time and will be announced to users well in advance.
The plugin is not showing up in my DAW on macOS
- macOS Version Compatibility: Older macOS versions may have trouble recognizing the plugin. We recommend upgrading to the latest macOS version to ensure compatibility.
- Plugin Format Conflicts: If you have installed both AU and VST3 versions and the plugin does not appear in your DAW, try installing only one format (either AU or VST3) to resolve potential conflicts between the formats.
- Pro Tools (AAX): Confirm the AAX plugin is at
/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Ins/MIDI Agent.aaxplugin, relaunch Pro Tools, and let the first-launch plugin scan complete. - No DAW? The Standalone App at
/Applications/MIDI Agent.appalways works without a DAW.
How do I install MIDI Agent for Pro Tools (AAX)?
- Native AAX: MIDI Agent is available as a native AAX plugin for Pro Tools on Windows and macOS.
- Install Paths: AAX is placed at
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Avid\Audio\Plug-Inson Windows and/Library/Application Support/Avid/Audio/Plug-Inson macOS by the installer. - First Launch: Relaunch Pro Tools and let the plugin scan complete. MIDI Agent appears on Instrument tracks.
Do I need a DAW to use MIDI Agent?
- No. MIDI Agent ships as a Standalone App for Windows and macOS. Launch it from the Start Menu (Windows) or
/Applications/MIDI Agent.app(macOS) and generate MIDI without a host. - Drag-and-drop export: Drag the generated
.midfile directly into any DAW timeline or MIDI track. A Save MIDI fallback is available if a DAW doesn't accept direct drag-and-drop. - No host transport: The Standalone App has no DAW playhead — tempo and transport use MIDI Agent defaults.
